Dead Backyard Lawn Gets a Full St. Augustine Sod Overhaul

Some yards don't need a tune-up - they need a full reset. That's exactly what this backyard called for. The existing lawn was patchy, dried out, and overrun with weeds. More dirt than grass at that point. No amount of fertilizing or mowing was going to fix it.

We started from scratch. The old lawn material was cleared out completely, then we regraded the yard using a soil and sand mix. That step matters more than most people realize. Once the ground was prepped and leveled, we laid fresh St. Augustine sod fence line to fence line. St. Augustine is a solid choice for yards like this - it handles heat well, fills in thick, and gives you that full green coverage that holds up through the summer. The difference between what we started with and what we finished with is hard to overstate.

The whole process - demo, regrade, sod - is one of those jobs that looks simple on the surface but has a lot of moving parts underneath. Skipping steps is how you end up redoing it in a year or two. We don't cut corners on the prep work because that's what determines how well the sod takes hold and thrives long-term.
