Sometimes the best move is to start over. The existing bed had run its course - overgrown, patchy, and not doing the front of the house any favors. So that's exactly what we did. We pulled everything out, cleared the bed down to bare soil, and started fresh.

Once the old plants were out, we amended the soil and got the new layout planned. We went with camellias and hibiscus trees - both solid choices for color, structure, and year-round interest. The hibiscus trees give the bed some height, while the camellias fill in the middle and create a clean, layered look along the foundation.

After everything was planted and positioned, we laid fresh mulch across the entire bed. That dark mulch does a lot of work - it holds moisture, keeps weeds down, and makes the whole bed look sharp and finished. It's one of those details that ties everything together.

What we ended up with is a bed that actually complements the house. The plants have room to grow, the soil is in good shape underneath, and the whole front of the home looks intentional. That's the goal on every job like this - not just pretty, but set up to actually thrive.

This is the kind of landscaping work we do regularly - full tearouts, new plant installs, soil prep, mulching - the whole process handled start to finish. If your front bed is looking tired or you've been thinking about starting over, this is what that process looks like.
