This front yard had a lot of potential just buried under overgrown shrubs and old mulch beds that weren't doing much for the space. The plantings had taken over, weeds were creeping through, and there was no real usable area - just a cramped patch of green that needed constant upkeep and looked rough no matter how often it got trimmed.

We stripped everything out and started fresh. All the old landscaping was cleared, and we laid down weed fabric as a base before bringing in gravel and square concrete pavers set in a clean grid pattern. The result is a low-maintenance seating area that actually gives the front of the house some function - somewhere to sit, step into, or just enjoy the porch from a different angle.

The paver border is made from reclaimed brick pieces that tie into the existing brick walkway running up to the porch steps. That kind of continuity matters. It keeps the design from looking like random materials thrown together and makes the whole front yard feel like one intentional space instead of two separate things.

This is a good example of how landscaping doesn't have to mean more plants. Sometimes the right move is pulling things back, working with what the structure already has, and using paver surfaces and borders to create something clean and practical. Tight city lots especially benefit from this kind of thinking - you get more out of less square footage when the design actually has a purpose.
