Sometimes a yard just needs someone to come in and get serious with it. That was the case here - overgrown shrubs crowding the front of the house, an oak with growth pushing into everything around it, and a bed full of debris that had been building up for a while. Nothing was broken, it just needed a real cleanup and a plan.

We started by cutting back the oak and clearing out the overgrowth that had taken over the ground-level bed at its base. That kind of work takes more than a pair of hedge trimmers. You have to get in there, pull the dead material, cut back what's left to a manageable shape, and prep the soil before anything else happens. Once the bed was cleared down to clean dirt, we laid rock to keep it that way.

The bottlebrush got the same treatment - trimmed back and shaped so the structure of the plant actually shows now. That's one thing people overlook with shrubs like this. When they get too dense and bushy, you lose the natural form entirely. A proper trim opens things up and actually makes the plant look healthier, not just smaller.

Rock at the base of both the oak and the shrubs isn't just a cosmetic choice. It cuts down on weeding, holds moisture, and keeps the bed looking neat between maintenance visits. Low-effort, high-reward. That's the kind of detail that separates a yard that looks good for a week from one that stays looking good.

Everything we cut and cleared got loaded up and hauled off the property - no debris left behind for the homeowner to deal with. Start to finish, this is what a full landscape cleanup looks like when it's done properly.
